Tips to choose a ball gown silhouette wedding dresses

Virtually every unique wedding dress springs from one of these eight timeless styles. Having an idea of what you like will make shopping for your gown easier. Here I, with great honor, introduce the ball gown silhouette to the soon to be brides.

Ball gowns are the most traditional elegant beach wedding dress silhouettes. It is a classic shape that is flattering to everybody. The shape is fitted in the torso and has a full voluminous skirt, emphasizing the waist and creating an hourglass figure. Ball gowns create curves but can also hide full hips. Think Cinderella (before midnight!). This silhouette is the fullest skirt that you can wear. Typically with a ball gown, you will have several layers of toile or crinoline under the gown already built into the dress and you may wish to add a petticoat to give you even more fullness. This is a very flattering style. It is a little bit difficult to maneuver in a gown unless your venue is a larger one – a large church or a reception site where you have plenty of room to move in the gown.

The full-skirted vintage wedding gown swept into fashion with Queen Victoria’s wedding in 1840 and remains the favorite romantic silhouette. Necklines and sleeves may vary, but the small waist and full skirt billowing over tulle petticoats are constants.
