Vintage wedding dresses – 1950s

Vintage Wedding Dresses

With the end of World War II, the weddings during 50s were celebrated with more enthusiasm. Wedding dresses became more fancy but without leaving their modesty. Following are a few looks that made their way into the wedding dresses of the 1950s:

1 Upstanding gothic style collars

2 Lace boleros on top of a strapless dress (opaque ones became popular later in the decade)

3 Ankle-length styles rather than floor-length

4 Flutter hems

5 Layered materials

6 Three-quarter or long sleeves with a wedding point

7 Scooped neckline

8 Dropped hemline (late ’50s)

9 Stiffer, more opaque fabric than the Chantilly lace of earlier in the decade (late ’50s)

The 1950s weren’t about showing a lot of skin. Compared to some of the wedding dresses from today, 1950s’ dresses were extremely modest wedding dresses. They tended to be of traditional length with sleeves, a not-too-low neckline, and few embellishments. Most of the dresses had long sleeves and a high neckline, while some that were strapless had short jackets called bolero jackets to complement the decent look.

All these dresses give her the perfect opportunity to exude her beauty with confidence and style. However, if you are looking for a subtle, yet elegant and classic wedding, then a 1950s vintage wedding dress is the best attire for you.
